Courtauld Collection Tour
One of the greatest art collections in London, located in the magnificent historical setting of Somerset House. The Courtauld Collection is the collection of the Courtauld Institute of Art which is a self-governing college of the University of London specialising in the study of the history of art. Samuel Courtauld industrialist and philantropist founded the collection in 1932 giving an extensive collection of paintings, mainly French Impressionist and Post-Impressionist works. Later Lord Lee of Fareham, and the art historian Sir Robert Witt both also founders of the gallery gave bequests of Old Masters. The collection today includes paintings, drawings, prints, sculpture and decorative arts, ranging from the medieval period to the present day. Remarkable impressionist masterpieces such as Manet’s ‘A Bar at the Folies Bergère’, Renoir’s ‘La Loge’, and Van Gogh’s Self-Portrait with Bandaged Ear.
