The British Galleries tell the story of the development of British design from the 1500s to the early 1900s beginning with the Tudors and ending with Victorian period. The design styles of each age will be considered and put into the context of the history of each era and related to the designers and the key personalities of time. William Kent, Robert Adam, James Stuart, Josiah Wedgewood Thomas Chippendale, William and John Linnell, Augustus Putin, William Morris, CR Ashbee, Charles Renee Mackintosh,Christopher Dresser and other iconic names in British design will be featured. Learn about the renaissance, Jacobean, Baroque, Palladian, Rococo, Neoclassical, gothic revival and Arts and Crafts styles.
